Samuel Lynne Galleries presents a live Reflectionist painting by JD Miller, held at the gallery’s Dragon Street location on February 14, 2026.

The event centers on Miller’s Reflectionist practice, in which painting is approached as a physical and temporal act. Working in oil, Miller constructs images through layered, dimensional application, allowing gesture, movement, and material presence to guide the composition in real time. The resulting work is produced publicly over the course of the evening, emphasizing process rather than performance.

Miller’s Reflectionism considers the reciprocal relationship between intention, action, and material outcome. The live painting format makes this philosophy visible, presenting the work as an evolving object rather than a fixed image. Viewers encounter the painting as it develops, observing shifts in form, texture, and density as the surface is built.

Samuel Lynne Galleries has presented Miller’s work across multiple bodies of work and contexts, placing significant paintings in private and institutional collections throughout the United States. This annual presentation continues the gallery’s ongoing engagement with Reflectionism as a contemporary painterly language.
